A post-pandemic world’s know-how or an ode to education

Tourism is firmly mixed in with other areas. I have already forgotten the days when we only booked flights, transfers and hotels. Now it is a billion options: covid-tests, restaurants, investment issues, long-term apartment rentals, finding lawyers and architects, flying across closed borders, ordering gifts for children to another country, applying for visas to embassies that do not work, and much more. And most importantly : tourism has now touched and can be said to have stuck to international education.

When parents come to me asking for a course, camp or institution, I often remember a story from my childhood. It has become a very bright spot in my mind and has greatly influenced my outlook on the world.

Once, when I was a little girl, I saw a gorgeous woman on the street. The kind of woman that everyone, from men to small children, looked at. She was wearing a sharp business suit and high heels. She walked gracefully, and it seemed that with one fleeting glance she could stop a rushing train.

“God, she’s beautiful,” I thought. I stared at her so intently that the girl came up to me and said: “You want to be like me, you have to study a lot.” I had heard this trite phrase many times from teachers and parents, but this was the first time I had seen a truly successful person.

I have always done well at school, but one thing my parents have been neglecting since I was a child. I am talking about education abroad.

Now, despite the Iron Curtain that has affected the whole world, educational institutions are working, teaching and graduating the world’s best professionals.

Education has become more accessible. The pandemic helped here! After all, there is online, and with it the prices of classes have fallen, education has become more accessible.

Finally, it was that golden time when diligence and erudition gave way to chutzpah and luck. Finally, it was not enough “to be in the right place at the right time or to acquire the right connections”.

What they teach at Oxford

Among my students are graduates of prestigious English colleges and students from top universities. I am very proud of that!

Frankly speaking, the world is so upside down that it is extremely difficult to survive without special knowledge and a hardened character. In any business. Accordingly, the demand for education is very different between our venerable institutes and European ones. It is in the latter that they teach unconventional things and solutions. You might have heard more than once the stories about how children were taught to read books upside down or from right to left. How they were given amazing logic tasks in entrance exams. The most favourite question which I heard from the student on examination was the following: in your opinion, whether the TV is necessary for prisoners? Or is vegetarianism the future, do you think? These are the questions they ask on admission to Oxford University, there are no right answers, as you understand.

I am writing the text and smiling as the most popular question comes to mind: are there any of your students who study at Oxford? There are Surrey and Imperial students among my students, but no Oxford. Why not? The answer is simple: “Those who can get into Oxford don’t seek help from agents))”

The cost of education is high. There are very few free programs in the UK, but in other countries where there are British campuses the cost of education is much lower. The process is multi-step, and sometimes takes a huge amount of time not only to select, but also to form a case and fill out a certain package of documents.

To motivate you, here are some statistics:

– Children who have been to an international camp at least once feel more confident not only in English lessons, but also in the company of their peers

– Children who met friends in the camp communicate with us in social networks all year round, so the language practice and the scale of dreams increases a hundredfold (and you paid only for the camp)

– We do not advertise for children’s camps – our group forms itself. Parents whose children have been to a children’s camp at least once come next year themselves and say: “We want it!”

– Independence is one of the most unexpected turns in a child’s behavior. There was a case in my experience when a child didn’t clean up his clothes at all, lost things all over the places, couldn’t put his own food and wash dishes. And so his parents sent him to the GREEN PEACE children’s camp in the USA.

It’s not a camp – it’s a real paradise for any teenager – they don’t have a campus. They literally live in the field, constantly moving around, sleeping on a cruise ship or in tents. During the 3-week program, the kids don’t attend classes, they clean corals and spasuethe endangered species of plankton. My students are usually alone from the CIS countries, but there are a lot of Americans – practice around the clock. And they also sit around the campfire and discuss politics and the importance of being able to work with their hands in today’s life. After this camp, the kids drop their gadjets, their eyes light up, and they are inspired to squeeze the most out of their efforts for at least another six months.

Let’s get back to our hero, the spoiled teenager – when he came to this camp, he could not afford to forget his things, which is justified: you forget your rubber boots in another town, walk through a wet forest in sneakers, you will not be able to cook porridge on the fire – you will stay hungry. The organizers have high goals, they educate real warriors and core, willpower. Our hero’s parents were very worried! “My son will be lost,” they said. But my son returned as a different person, for which I, as a fairy, received an interesting gift (tableware from the island). – written is agreed with the parents – note

– Replacement of the social circle. Very often we encounter a situation where a child lives in a good family, and his parents have status and higher education. And their beloved child walks in the yard with children from disadvantaged families. This problem is for some reason few of my colleagues, but it exists and is very common. If you have the same situation – try to send them to the camp and they’re guaranteed to rebuild interests and values! Only in a proven camp, as there are different camps, too!

If it is done correctly, your teen will no longer be able to find common ground with the yard company, and smoking cheap cigarettes with a fun-loving friend will not be at all fashionable, but a shameful activity.

How the best of the best saved their businesses.

I got carried away with camps, (it’s immediately apparent that this is a topic close to my heart) and got sidetracked from the main point – about the value of education in our world.

The ill-fated March 2020 showed the world who’s who. I brought up statistics on who is fighting the collapse, how the best of the best are saving their life’s work.

The results are as follows: rich people first of all invested large sums in their education. And almost all of them!

I looked at them, weighed the pros and cons, and realized that I had been putting off coaching with an American coach for a very long time.

If America’s best businessmen in the very first days of mass austerity You should more than agree that now we need new ideas for business. Our familiar world has changed a lot; there are no standard solutions anymore.

It is necessary urgently to go into a dance, waving off a huge windmill, while trying not to get into the whirlpool and do not go to the bottom.

This is a time of uncomplicated and unstratified decisions. It will not be like before. That is why it is foolish to rely on a familiar base of old knowledge.

And the most interesting thing is that all the businessmen that I watched for almost a year during the crisis not only survived the crisis but also became rich! After all, in any crisis someone earns and someone loses
