What’s so special about Cyprus? – you may ask. Why does the great number of Russian-speaking public go to this island? It seems that Cyprus has never been considered as a particularly fashionable resort: there are few luxury hotels, Michelin restaurants, superexpensive boutiques, palm groves a la “bounty”, picturesque mountains and other attributes of premium leisure.

However, this island has an irresistible attraction which influences the choice of even discerning tourists who are used to vacationing in much more status-oriented places. And the tourist component is improving year by year, especially in terms of hotel class.

I have been to Cyprus seven times. I have access to different journeys to choose being the owner of a tourist business. Despite this fact I will surely go to Cyprus again. The fact is that Cyprus, apart from its clean beaches and azure sea, has other attractive features that reflects the pure nature of the island.

Atmosphere and communication

The atmosphere in Cyprus is amazing – you never feel like an outsider or a stranger there. You come there like you’re going to a country house to spend a nice weekend with family and friends.

The people on the island are multinational, but especially many of our compatriots and other Russian-speaking Slavs, which creates an indescribably warm atmosphere. Although many people come to Cyprus for business reasons, no one is in a particular hurry – a stark contrast to the hustle and bustle of the metropolis.

I met a lot of interesting people who managed to achieve success in life. Each story is absolutely unique, but they have one thing in common: successful people have chosen Cyprus to live, do business and invest their capital.

Favorable conditions for business and capital allocation

Cyprus offers an incredibly attractive environment for business, capital accumulation and growth. The legislative framework provides many incentives for opening accounts, purchasing real estate, paying taxes. Business support there has been elevated to an unprecedented level.

Among my acquaintances in Cyprus there were many interesting people, for example, a gemologist of international renown and the owner of a cleaning chain from Moscow who managed to build a business from scratch with two small children in her arms. Their lives are now closely connected with Cyprus.

The story of the programming team is particularly telling. The guys arrived in Cyprus lightweight, with their rucksacks, and asked for at least some cheap office space. And just a couple of years later, they bought a huge building and increased the staff from ten to five hundred. Inspiring, isn’t it?

And there are many such stories: people come to Cyprus, open businesses there, transfer money into local bank accounts, buy property and, of course, relax and live. In short, everyone takes from this bountiful island what he or she needs.

Real Estate and Citizenship

Once upon a time, the purchase of property in Cyprus automatically entailed the right to obtain citizenship. Unfortunately, this programme has now been suspended, but there are still many nice perks, particularly attractive for people wishing to obtain EU passports and the preferences associated with them.

Owners of a business or any (even non-commercial) property in Cyprus immediately receive a temporary residence permit. This imposes certain obligations, but they are not onerous, and in some ways are even pleasant: you only need to fly to the island once every three months for a year. This is followed by a permanent residence permit, and after seven years you can become a full citizen of Cyprus and the EU, with all the implications.

And this applies to all family members of property owners: their spouses and children receive similar documents. And this is a real opportunity to work officially in Europe and to give their children an elite education in the best schools and universities, and on preferential terms, or even free of charge.

Banks in Cyprus give very favourable loans for the purchase of property – at 4-5% per annum. But if previously a good one-bedroom apartment on the first line could be bought for 75-100 thousand euros, now there are no such prices.

The real estate prices are rising rapidly in Cyprus . You have to pay 3-4 times more than ten years ago for the opportunity to wake up to the sound of the waves and the cries of seagulls. So it is not only a European “cottage” on the shores of the warm sea, but also a fantastically good investment.

How about just having a rest?

Cyprus was and remains a great seaside resort, apart from other delights,  even if it’s not the most fashionable in the world.The prices are also quite affordable for the average budget. However, there are several hotels in Cyprus that will please even discerning tourists who are used to luxury.

First of all, I would like to mention the Four Seasons Hotel. This hotel is privately owned and has nothing to do with the world luxury chain. The fact is that the Four Seasons appeared in Limassol much earlier than the world famous chain. The owner did not want to make concessions to the monopolist of tourist business and did not rename the hotel – such a proud Cypriot.

And the hotel really is very cool – it fully deserves its five stars: excellent service, comfortable rooms and suites, pools, courts, spa. And the area is great: the hotel is surrounded by a blooming tropical garden, which turns into its own stretch of clean, sandy beach.

Another hotel I love is the new five-star Amara with its rooftop duplexes and secluded bungalows. It’s particularly popular with fans of Asian style and the modern concept of eco-friendliness. It also has a restaurant with direct sea views, the only one on the entire island.

The Columbia Hotel is the perfect setting for romantic dates and declarations of love, with its lagoon-shaped pool, stunning gardens and stunning sea views. What’s more, even one of the hotel’s bars is called Eros and the famous Mount Aphrodite is just a few kilometres away!

Not to be missed is the luxurious white-washed Anassa, perched proudly on the emerald hills. The hotel is very fashionable and modern: it is a favourite with the celebrities and other glamorous guests who want to take a break from the hustle and bustle of the metropolis and take fantastic photos.
