EBACE-2022: ready to fly!

It happened! Finally, after two pandemic years, the most authoritative EBACE forum was held again in full-time format, with visitors and its luxury. We were unbelievable lucky to be there and see the grand air-show with our own eyes.

This show was impressive and very useful: you could see business aviation bestsellers and make cool contacts in the professional environment. However, lets speak about everything one by one!

What is EBACE?

EBACE is the largest and the most authoritative exhibition of private and business aviation in the world. It takes place at Palexpo and Geneva International Airport every year. It will be difficult to find a better place for this forum, because Switzerland is traditionally associated with money and luxury in all manifestations. Including also airplanes.

All major business aviation players meet at the forum. This year, over 250 companies took part in EBACE (usually there are even more, but the events known to everyone could not affect the number and composition of participants).

In the global spotlight traditionally was the confrontation between three world giants of business aviation: Dassault, Bombardier and Gulfstream. Each of them presented both recognized bestsellers and sensational novelties, which are planned to be released in the series in the coming years.

The exhibition collects not only aircraft builders, but also everyone who is at least somehow connected with business aviation. There you can get an abyss of useful information from world-class professionals: how to buy or sell a plane, properly organize a private flight, and so on. The most valuable acquisitions are live contacts and a luxurious collection of business cards of lawyers, dealers, representatives of catering services and other useful professionals.

It was very interesting to see the grandiose Boeing converted into luxurious flying apartments, to be impressed by the iconic models of business jets that are already plowing the airspace, to admire the bells and whistles of pilot copies that will soon become available for sale and freight.

So, there is a small roundup of bestsellers offered by world leaders for you.

Gulfstream G700

Let’s start with the very sensational Gulfstream G700. This “Rolls Royce” from aviation became a real hit of the forum. Why is this a comparison? Because the benchmark of speed, range and luxury is powered by Rolls-Royce Pearl 700 engines that were designed specifically for it.

The plane was presented two years ago in Las Vegas and instantly became a sensation. Despite the fact that sales of Gulfstream G700 haven’t started yet (everyone is really waiting), buyers stood in line for him. Ahead of the planet, of course, the Arab sheikhs who are recognized lovers of everything else.

In the serial version (if you can use this word at all in the appendix to Gulfstream G700), the internal space of the superjet is divided into five zones:

• spacious, fully equipped kitchen;
• comfortable cabin for the crew;
• recreational area, where presentations can be held;
• luxurious “dining room,” which can also used as a meeting room;
• passenger cabin with a dressing room and all conceivable amenities.

Naturally, at the request of the customer, zoning and interior can be changed – the largest salon in its class allows you to roam design fantasies. By the way: incredibly comfortable chairs that have already won a bunch of awards, a floor made of natural stone, quartz countertops, all kinds of audio and video ports are more than impressive. However, like the circadian lighting system and the entire plenum ventilation, which create fantastic comfort for the eyes, lungs, nerves and soul.

The cabin is also impressive – what are some huge touch screens worth! And this golden bird is capable of reaching speeds of up to 904 km/h and flying a distance of 13890 km at an altitude of up to 15545 m!

Impressive? But the already announced G800 is next in line – I wonder how it will surpass its predecessor, which is essentially Perfection?

Bombardier Challenger 850

Bombardier Challenger 850 can be included to the legends of business flights: the first board was officially presented to the public in 2006. The premiere (by the way, held at the Russian Jet Expo forum) became so successful that this plane seriously and for a long time became one of the most popular in its class.

This jet was created on the basis of the regional passenger side of the CRJ200, which made it possible to achieve a completely reasonable price (both the aircraft itself and its operation). The asset is a very spacious cabin and a salon that fully corresponds to business class.

It is worth saying separately about the Challenger salon, because it is no less than the flagship Global. Inside, too, everything is more than in order for a comfortable accommodation of 15 people: a working area with a conference room, a compartment for comfortable rest with a sofa and chairs that can turn into sleeping places, two bathrooms, and so on.

Challenger 850 cannot boast of a flight range. It is only 5,750 km, which is almost the minimum for an aircraft

with such a cabin, and also noise insulation is not ideal. On the other hand, for not too long-distance corporate flights (for example, for the delivery of delegations), this is an ideal option. And if even higher comfort and luxury is required, there is a VIP version of the Challenger 850 designed for fewer passengers.

In addition to the beloved legend, Canadians brought to court the audience several more cool developments. This, for example, is a great evolution of the bestseller Challenger 3500, first shown in Geneva, as well as the flagship superjet Global 8000 – the future champion in speed and range, the launch of which is announced for 2025.

Embraer Legacy 600  

Before you is another well-deserved bestseller and the main competitor of the Challenger 850. Embraer Legacy 600 in many ways resembles an opponent, so the competition between them looks as fair as possible.

This Brazilian jet is also the heir to a passenger plane for regional transportation. It was created on the basis of YeMV-135, and even earlier – the old plane has been plowing the sky since the distant 2001. Embraer Legacy 600 is constantly improving: modern versions don’t resemble the samples of twenty years ago, but they are also gradually being replaced by new jet models.

In a word, you have a light, reliable and maneuverable aircraft with all the attributes of a modern business jet that make the flight as pleasant as possible. Another plus is economy from all points of view.

Challenger 850 and Legacy 600 in the basic configuration are approximately comparable in terms of equipment and comfort, but there are some differences, sometimes decisive when choosing a jet:

• Legacy 600 cabin is longer and narrower, accommodating fewer passengers (10-13 maximum).
• The luggage compartment of the Legacy 600 is almost one and a half times more spacious.
• The Challenger 850 has a little higher ceiling (even if only 3 cm, but still).
• The basic configuration of the Challenger 850 is equipped with two bathrooms, while in the Legacy 600 “amenities” are presented in a single copy.
• In terms of flight range, undoubtedly Legacy is in the lead.

Cessna Citation XLS+

Moving on to less popular but also successful options. For example, to the jet Cessna Citation XLS +. This is the ideal solution for business flights without prohibitive requirements, that is, a solid executive class without super bells and whistles that raise the cost to stratospheric heights.

Cessna Citation XLS + acts as the heir to its eponymous ancestor (the same name, but without the “plus”) and repeats its deafening commercial success. Despite the efforts of competitors, the Citation XLS, with and without a plus, remains the best-selling aircraft in its class.

Modern Citation XLS + have become much more perfect than their ancestors in technical terms, which made it possible to significantly reduce the load on the crew. But in relation to the cabin, a completely justifying classical approach has been preserved: a compartment with convertible seats, designed for 6-9 passengers, a cozy kitchen, dressing room, bathroom. True, the ceiling height is only 173 cm, but this is quite a worthy value for miniature birds.

The flight range of 3,441 km is quite enough for comfortable flights around Europe. The compactness and maneuverability of the jet amazes the imagination: all airports in the world are available to it. Including airports with extremely short stripes, where not only a bulky “passenger” will not go to the nose, but also a larger jet. Plus reference efficiency and a very sane price!

Falcon 7X

The fate of the Falcon 7X, that was presented in 2005 in Le Bourget, turned out to be incredibly happy. The flagship from Dassault Aviation became so successful that it set the tone in aircraft construction for several decades to come.

The Falcon 7X is the first aircraft to be fully simulated in virtual space, which for that time was a revolutionary innovation. This made it possible to bring all the components to an ideal balance – from the wing configuration to the interior design.

Modern Falcon 7X are equipped with electrodistance control systems, which is generally a breakthrough in small aviation. However, we will not bore you with technical details, although they are impressive. Let’s talk about what passengers need to know.

Falcon 7X is quite capable of transoceanic flight: the maximum range is 11,000 km, which is simply incredible, and the speed exceeds 1,100 km/h! The plane is able to take to the end of the world 8-14 passengers who can enjoy the flight without denying themselves anything. Ceilings 188 cm high allow even large men to walk full height, and this, as you can understand, is a very important characteristic for a 13-hour flight.

Very comfortable cabin in the basic configuration is divided into two areas: for work and rest (plus a kitchen and a recreational compartment for the crew). Two toilets, a shower (optional), ultra-comfortable chairs and sofas, climate control, the highest degree of protection against noise and vibration, the most advanced system for broadcasting audio and video content – in a word, the ideal conditions for long-distance flights have been created.
